Sacred Ceremonies to Acknowledge Life’s Cycles and Rites of Passage

I weave art out of listening, to create thoughtfully inspired, personalized and meaningful ceremonies with you that honor your loved one’s life, and support healing and transition through major losses and life-altering events.

Ceremonies can serve to celebrate a life, mark important milestones and transitions, and support our healing at various thresholds on our life’s path. Ceremonies can touch and fill up our hearts, and they hold the potential for transformation when we are moving from one way of being to another.

Together, We Create
Memorable Ceremonies

I collaborate with you to create and perform an authentic, life-affirming and memorable ceremony that reflects your beliefs, values, philosophies, personality, and most importantly your story, in ways that honor both traditional and contemporary needs. It is my great joy and privilege to help tell YOUR story the way YOU want it to be told.

Personalized Ceremonies

I personalize your ceremony to include the ceremonial elements, tone, and essence you want and feel are true for you. These may include meaningful words spoken by me, memories and stories from you and others, poetry or other readings, music, and ceremonial rituals.  I will create with you, and for you, a ceremony that you will have full approval of and allows space for you to grieve, celebrate, and find meaning in the joys and sorrows during times of change. You will receive a keepsake copy of your ceremony.

“My mother, Genny, passed last year at 94 following a colorful and storied life.   For years she’d been adamant about not having a ‘celebration of life.”  She had been to scores of them and was irritated by the cookie cutter, ‘wasn’t she a saint’ patter.  She’d say, “It should be real, the good, the bad and the ugly.”

Well, mom and I went to a ‘celebration of life’ given by Joey Lee.  Driving home, she turned to me and said, “I’d like her to do my service.”

Joey went to great lengths to learn about mom’s life; her childhood, her struggles, her accomplishments, her causes.  She took the pieces and wove them together uncovering core threads & themes that ran throughout her life.  We were all blown away.

Joey created a service that no one will ever forget.  She had love & compassion for my mother and our family. She adroitly circumvented family conflicts (of which we have a few...) and made certain the ceremony included parts to assist the healing of each individual as well as the healing of the family as a whole.

I am forever indebted to Joey.”

About Joey

I am a professional ceremony specialist, formally trained through the Celebrant Foundation & Institute with Certifications in Funerals, and in Ceremonies in Healing and Transition, which uniquely prepared me in the art of ritual, ceremony structure and story-telling. My work as a Certified Life-Cycle CelebrantⓇ is supported by a background in social work and hospice care. I am skilled at creating sacred space, offering deep listening and compassionate presence.  I create ceremonial experiences that illuminate one's life story, and will remain in your heart and memory.

My starting fees range from $400-800, depending on intricacy and type of ceremony. My fees cover my time to collaborate with you (and any loved ones), research, write, prepare for and officiate the ceremony. A service fee for travel is applied for ceremonies outside of Rochester, MN. Generally, it takes a minimum of 20 hours, and often more, to create a ceremony with you and officiate it. Fees will be clarified prior to the start of our work together.
